Jewish people have played an important role in development of Bucharest throughout centuries. Their population counted 11 % in 1930. Until World War 2, Jews lived together with other inhabitants in peace. Jews have gathered and lived in one place close to the commercial heart of Bucharest. During and after the war, they had to face up with anti-semitism and German Nazis extermination plan as well as communist regime. They were forced to emigrate to Israel. After the massive 1980s demolitions their districts were virtually razed to the ground. We start our tour with visiting the History Museum of the Romanian Jews which presents numerous artifacts related with Jewish culture and history. The building is a former old tailor's Synagogue. Then we will go the Great Polish Synagogue which is a home to the Holocaust Museum and the major landmark of Jewish district. The next stop will be in front of the Jewish State Theater (Baraseum Theater) and then you will visit one of the most beautiful synagogue in Romania – the Choral Temple which is also an active temple. The last stop will be at the Holocaust Memorial Monument erected in 2004. During whole tour our knowledgable English-speaking guide will be accompanying you and telling some interesting stories.
